Morning Routines: Anita Cheung of Moment Meditation

You may now Anita Cheung as the founder of The Social Yoga in Vancouver, the original nomadic studio offering an alternative to a typical yoga class experience. Anita's latest project is as one of the co-founders of Moment Meditation her her running everything from branding to leading meditation workshops. This yoga and meditation teacher is also a nap queen, stationary enthusiast, ideas machine, and semi-professional journal-keeper. She loves to move, connect, and dig deep. This night owl is on a mission to become a morning bird and shares her current routine, and mantras with us.

Are you a morning bird or night owl?
If I had to choose, I’d say a night owl- I love the creativity I find in the quiet of the evening when everyone else is asleep. However, because I’m trying to be more productive/ more of a morning person, my night owl tendencies are waning.

What are you inspired by right now?
I’m a visual person so I’m inspired by the many brands/artists/photographers I follow on Instagram and to pick just three would be super difficult. My sister (@theconfettiandco/ @amyteixeira) always inspires me as well.

What is your current purpose?
With everything I do, I like to think that I’m doing my part to encourage others to be the kindest, most conscious versions of themselves.

What’s your current morning routine?
I’m just starting to become more of a morning person this year.

On a typical day, I wake up around 6AM and either spend two hours doing admin work and emails before I have to leave for my first class, or I head out for a workout at either Distrikt Movement or Tight Club.

First thing you think about when you wake up?
To be perfectly honest, it’s probably along the lines of “How many more times can I hit snooze before I have to get up?”

What is your top morning life hack?
I’ve only done this once or twice (usually for early morning flights) but going to bed in the clothes you have to wear the next day helps cut some time off in the morning.

Now I know not everyone has the luxury of wearing stretchy pants to work every day and wrinkled button up shirts are nobody’s friend so please take this life hack with a grain of salt.

What mottos do you live by right now?Life mottos:
1. It’s either a good time or a good story
2. Throw it out there, and see what sticks.
3. Rise above (negativity)

Favorite toast spread? 
Avocado & hot sauce.

Coffee, tea or kombucha?  
Tea please!

How do you like your eggs in the morning?
Hardboiled is easiest but my favorite is poached.

Alarm or no alarm?
Alarm. Unfortunately, I need like 10 alarms to wake me up.

Glitter & Unicorn tears. People always comment on my ability to get shit done- and how else would I be able to do that without a little morning magic?
